Adobe Integrated Runtime
Akxius researched two years into the making of its desktop server viewer and many, many technologies were looked at when trying to come up with the perfect solution including Java, .Net, and Python. After prototyping and reviewing many methods and viewers, the one that stood out from the rest was the AIR thin desktop client created by the development group at Akxius.
What is Air you ask?
The Adobe Integrated Runtime (AIR), previously referred to by its code-name of "Apollo", is a cross-operating system runtime that allows web developers to leverage their existing web development skills (such as Flash, Flex, HTML and JavaScript) to build and deploy web applications and content to the desktop.
Using AIR we were able to leverage base and advanced web technologies and port them to the desktop thus allowing us to create the viewer and the server from the same source technologies.
The Viewer is a collection of of Advanced Thin Client Methods allowing us to keep the viewer small and give it the ability to update easily from the web. While allowing us to tie into our other core technologies include AJAX, Flex and CFMX 8 as well as create a standard alone SOA compliant viewer.
All in all this is still beta level technology that we have been able to stabilize into a fully fledged release product. |
